So we're 10 days into my 30 day challenge. And so far, it is just that - a challenge! One would think "pfft, 30 mintutes/day, a piece of cake". Well excuse the pun, as yesterday that is exactly what happened! I found myself indulging in a red velvet cupcake at Bake-a-boo after a failed yoga attempt (a combo of traffic delays and a lack of parking coinage) followed by the disappearance of headphones for a pound on the pavements (no music = mega boring run). I seemed to have found every excuse under the sun not to exercise. So I didn't.
Part of the lovely long weekend (thanks Queeny!!) was spent in the countryside, relaxing and unwinding... So I headed for the hills, bypassing cute cottages along the way. I also made a wee spectacle in the local parks; stepping on benches, running around trees, push-up with side planks and hammering out every type of lunge known to man!
Sunday was fail day number two. The morning was spent recovering from the good times at Feild Day Festival and the afternoon was all about flag waving along the Thames, celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Lesson learnt: Bloody Marys and San Miguels are not conduscive of encouraging any serious phyical activity.
With the return of school holidays this week I have had less 'me' time and more hands on time with Ruby (7) and Fin (10). Kids seem to have an bottomless bag full of energy so I got them both out (in the rain) on their bikes whilst I ran beside them, for 45 minutes - they did brilliant! The following day, Ruby gave me a full-blown ballet lesson! She put some tunes on, forced me on to my tiptoes and had me in a constant state of pliƩ, spinning and arm flapping (all whilst donning a tutu far too small for me) I can assure you my muscles were screaming by the end! On Friday I had my butt kicked on the basketball court by Fin. For my wee 157cm frame I'm pretty sweet at slam dunking the ball into the net, but my overall basketball fitness is clearly lacking!
Today saw the return of a visit to the gym. I found the gym quite a treat... After slogging it out for 30mins on the cross-training and pumping some serious iron on the weights floor (move aside posing and groaning alpha-males) I made a refreshing splash in the pool and then found myself in a reflective and almost meditative state in the sauna... Rewarded.
